I Was Afraid
is dark, brooding, and everything a shoegaze band should be. Oozing guitars,
spacey vocals, and an overarching sense of despair bring everything together
for this alt/emo outfit from Little Rock. Stream the title track off their
latest release Endless Ecstasy below
and stream the entire LP on I Was Afraid’s Bandcamp page.
Please list
all of your band members and their roles in the band. Darby Johnson – Vocals/Guitar (answering)
Ty McCuin – Guitar
Evan Grove - Bass
Champy Gahagan - Drums
What’s your
hometown (or what are your hometowns)? We’re from around the Little Rock, Arkansas, area.
Two of us live inside Little Rock and two live outside of Little Rock.
How did the
band come together? How long has it been? Ty
and I (Darby) started I Was Afraid in 2011 but we’ve gone through so many
member changes
that this version of the band is a completely separate band than from when it
started. This version of the band started in 2013.
How have you
grown since you started? I don’t
think we’ve gotten much taller but in the past two and a half years we’ve done
an EP, a split, and two albums. We’ve worked hard on improving our songwriting
as well as the tones and sounds we’re getting from our gear.
What sets you
apart from other bands? We’re short and we don’t have beards.
What’s the
best part about being in your band? We all really enjoy the music we’re playing! We’re trying to make the music we want
to hear rather than what’s super popular right now. As a band we get along
really well and just generally like spending time together whether it’s touring
or just hanging out together.
